About ONE DC Walking Tours

ONE DC invites you to engage with us in a conversation and community learning process about displacement and organizing in Washington, DC.

ONE DC organizers will show you the physical side of gentrification in Shaw and discuss its effect on the community, along with stories of how ONE DC organizers with residents to stand up against displacement, and for community-led equitable development.

Participants will have the opportunity to raise and discuss questions together, as well as tie their experiences to the DC context. We will explore the interconnectedness of the right to housing, the right to income, and the right to wellness.

Participants will walk a little less than 1 mile total. Depending on questions and reflections, tour lasts about 2 hours. Due to COVID-19, we are limiting tour groups to no more than 10 people in size.

Leading these tours are part of ONE DC's grassroots fundraising strategy. We request a donation of $300-500 per group tour. We can reduce this cost upon request if this does not work with your organization's budget.

This contribution supports ONE DC's organizing work, including our Right to Housing and Right to Income campaigns, and the Black Workers & Wellness Center.

In light of COVID-19, ONE DC organizers are also available to lead virtual/online presentations on a number of topics related to our work. We can present and share with your group about community organizing, the right to housing and fight against displacement and gentrification, the right to income and cooperative economics, racial and economic equity, movement building and the fight for social change. We can discuss with your group leaders about what topics are most relevant and would be the most valuable points of discussion for your group.

As walking tours and speaking engagements are part of ONE DC's grassroots fundraising strategy, we do request an honorarium or speaking fee be made to ONE DC in recognition of our time and to support our organizing work. The amount is negotiable depending on your group's budget.
